We filled you in on all our favourite bank holiday ideas in our last blog, but there’s heaps more fun to be had in May, especially now that the festival season has officially commenced. Celebrations of food, music and theatre are lined up throughout the city - here are some of our top picks.
For all those ‘foodies’ out there, this is the one for you. Meet Michelin starred chefs and watch as they cook their signature dishes. Get your taste buds tingling whilst feasting on street food or learn to bake at the Cake & Bake Theatre. Sip on the finest tea in the Vintage Tea Tent or fizz it up with champagne in the Drinks Theatre. Fun for all the family, tickets are on sale here.
Europe’s biggest Vegan event comes to Bristol’s Amphitheatre. There are over 180 stalls including food sellers, bars and juice bars alongside a range of talks on health, lifestyle and nutrition. Watch and learn from live cookery demonstrations and learn about the vegan philosophy and all its benefits. The festival is also featuring all-day lineups from local acoustic acts and each evening concludes with headliners of house party and a reggae sunsplash on the Sunday.
From food to music, it’s the festival all Bristolians have been waiting for. Back, bigger than before – Love Saves The Day returns this Spring bank holiday. With headliners including Hot Chip, Dizzee Rascal & Everything Everything you’re in for a musical treat!
From music to theatre, Mayfest also returns this year presenting a range of unusual and ambitious work by leading theatre makers from Bristol and beyond. In collaboration with key arts venues across Bristol, the festival of contemporary theatre presents work in theatre and non-theatre spaces across the city showcasing a diverse range of performances. Highlights include a Blind Cinema, Spymonkey -The Complete Deaths & It Folds by Brokentalkers & Junk Ensemble.
Calling all running enthusiasts; dig out your trainers and get involved in The Great Bristol 10k. Running for charity or want to take on a challenge this year? Take part in this exciting event and run along Bristol’s historic harbour side, taking in the stunning Avon Gorge and the Clifton Suspension bridge. There’s still time to sign up, so sign up today. If running’s not your thing and you prefer a slower paced stroll why not enjoy a walking festival instead? With walks taking place every day throughout the month, there’s loads to discover including singing walks, foraging, map reading workshops or architectural tours. With over 170 walks and events it really is the best way to see the city and all it has to offer!
It’s not all about festivals next month, there’s fundraisers too! Part cabaret, part auction, head along to the Tobacco Factory and enjoy acts from Bristols performing arts scene, including comedy, puppetry and more. Auctioning off artwork and artefacts from the world of animated film and theatre, watch Peter Lord from Aardman sculpt an original morph live onstage and bid on original artwork from War Horse creators Handspring Puppet Company.
