What's on in Bristol this October
Soup season is very much upon us in the office and it would seem we are all secretly happy about it. There’s nothing better than warming up with a bowl of creamy, sumptuous tomato soup and getting cosy. After much debate we have all now settled on this being favourite. So enjoy the season to your hearts content, but don’t the lure of a hot bowl of soup in front of netflix distract you from what is going to be a fantastic October in Bristol. It’s not quite hibernation time yet!
Let’s kick the month of with Grayson Perry: The Most Popular Art Exhibition Ever! at Arnolfini. This may well be our highlight of the month and lucky for you if your schedule is too full this October it’s running until the end of December so you’ll be able to make time. This special exhibition, which has left its hometown of London for the first time to visit Bristol, will explore a range of topics such as, class, sex, religion, politics as well as Brexit and ‘Divided Britain’. We think this will be the talk of the city so get it in the diary and join the conversation.
Calling all gin lovers! We have something rather special for you. The team at Psychochomp have been let loose to create a new cocktail menu available for one night only. Enjoy three cocktails, as well as some exclusive extras all taking inspiration from what can be found in a typical English orchard. Line your stomach with a good meal beforehand and experience some of Bristol’s best gin in an exciting new light.
Ever wanted to learn more about moving image and film and how it’s actually created? Whether you are in the business or just fancy finding out more about your hobby we have just the thing. Produced in association with Calling the Shots and as part of Digital Bristol Week, ‘How Do Artist and Arts Institutions Really Work?’ will run on 19th of the month and will give an interesting insight into the producing and presenting of artists’ work. This event is free so book early to avoid disappointment.
Simple Things Festival 21st Oct
We know by now Bristol wouldn’t be Bristol without a festival a month. October’s offering comes in the form of Simple Things Festival. Heading back to some of the cities favourite venues for its seventh year expect a line-up that will not disappoint. John Maus, Dre Skull, Kahn & Neek join headliners Leftfield and Wild Beasts for what is set to a fantastic day of music. Tickets available here.
We know we said a festival a month but we are in Bristol, a festival a week seems far more fitting for our festi loving city. And what better than a Sausage and Cider themed event! The South Bank Club are holding this wondrous event on the afternoon of the 21st and tickets are just £5! With all the ciders from the Southwest that you could imagine, how could you not. We are keeping our fingers crossed for some winter sun so we can enjoy their lovely outside garden space!
Pumpkin carving at Tyntesfield 21st Oct – 29th Oct
End the month with something for the kids, or big kids at that, with pumpkin carving at Tyntesfield. Halloween is just around the corner and you probably need to touch up on your skills. Pit child against child or adult against adult to see who can crave the creepiest cut-out. Now all you need is a bed sheet and a pair of scissors and you're set for the spookiest holiday of the year. Enjoy!
