Half-Term Family Fun in Bristol
Autumn is always a brilliant time to visit Bristol - especially with the little ones in tow. Not only are we blessed with outdoor spaces like Ashton Court, Blaise Estate and Clifton Down, but there’s always SO much to do - and half-term is no exception!
So whether you’re local to Bristol or staying in our wonderful city over the holidays, we’ve pulled together some of our favourite family friendly half-term activities to keep everyone entertained.
Young Wildlife Photography
For budding photographers, Slimbridge Wetland Centre is running a practical and enjoyable day for young wildlife photographers (aged 8 or above) and their parents to learn how to get great shots of wildlife on 27th October.
Pumpkin Picking Near Bristol
For many, October means one thing: Hallowe’en. With Hallowe’en comes pumpkins - and now you can pick your own. Trust us when we say some of these are almost big enough for Cinderella’s carriage!
Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park is hosting a Pumpkin Patch festival from 2nd-31st October 2021. Pick your own pumpkin and enjoy theatrical performers, fire shows and fair rides. There’s even pumpkin paintball and pumpkin cannons!
If your little ones are a bit older and you fancy making an evening of it, there’s also the Pumpkin Patch Nights at Avon Valley, with all the entertainment of the day-time festival plus street food and a pop-up bar.
If you’re looking for a more ‘rustic/straight off the farm’ vibe, why not head to Farrington’s Pumpkin Picking Festival? Toast marshmallows in a cauldron, take a tractor ride and let loose on the children’s fairground rides. Who knew pumpkins could be so much fun?
Half-Term Family Theatre in Bristol
Bristol’s renowned for its wonderful theatres, so of course there are a number of enchanting productions on for children over the half-term break.
Paper Jungle’s Three Suns on 29th October is a journey around the world through magical folktales shared by a boy and his aunty. Told through innovative puppetry, live music and storytelling, it’s suitable for children aged 5 and over.
Two of Bristol’s leading family theatre experts Tessa Bide and Soap Soup Theatre have come together between 20th-27th October to tell the story of an unusual friendship in The Selfish Giant through captivating puppetry.
The Amazing Bubble Man is at the Redgrave Theatre on 30th October combining comedy and artistry with audience participation and enough spellbinding bubble tricks to keep everyone mesmerized.
Skeloween at Bristol Zoo
Get into the Halloween spirit and learn all about the clever bones inside your favourite vertebrates at Bristol Zoo this October half-term.
Dare to discover dark and spooky Twilight World, see creepy creatures in Bug World, and spy 12 critically endangered Livingstone’s fruit bats hanging upside down.
Family Friendly Film Festival in Bristol
Bristol’s Film Festival have pulled out all the stops to provide cinematic experiences in a range of fascinating locations this half-term. Catch Disney-Pixar’s Up! at the Clifton Observatory on 23rd October or thrill at classic Hocus Pocus at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery on 28th October.
Family Fun Day at the Helicopter Museum
There’s free entry for all children in Halloween fancy dress at Weston-Super-Mare’s Helicopter Museum this half-term. On 24th October, families can enjoy giant bubble shows, a live magic show and climb aboard the actual helicopter used in Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’!
