Dog-friendly pubs and restaurants in Bristol
We’ve drawn up a list of the best places that serve great food and drink to take your pooch in Bristol. But first, we decided we couldn’t write a blog based on dogs without first including some pictures of dogs themselves to get you in the mood…
Racks Bar & Kitchen
First up is Racks! Located just off of Whiteladies Road, Racks Bar & Kitchen is in the hotel wine cellars of The Clifton Hotel, providing a cosy and a homely atmosphere. They are well known for their whopping burgers, pies and pizzas. They boast a popular outdoor terrace, big-screen sports and comfy sofas, as well as the ‘Ski Lodge’ which is brilliant for private parties over the festive season.
Brewhouse & Kitchen
Situated in the midst of a bundle of activity on Cotham Hill, Brewhouse brew their own beer, run fantastic Experience Days, Masterclasses, and have a brilliant little patio area adjacent to the pub itself – a great place to catch some rays! Alongside beer, they also have a range of ciders, wines and soft drinks. Their large food menu caters for everyone and even has a kid’s menu.
Snobby’s
Snobby’s is a wine restaurant/bar in Redland, serving pizza, small plates and sharing platters in a relaxed environment. They boast an impressive menu, carefully curated with delicious, value orientated wines from across the globe. If you’re after natural, organic, biodynamic, vegan, sulphite free or just well-made wines, then Snobby’s is the place for you.
Dogs are welcome inside and out, so in the summer you and your pup can enjoy the sunny terrace and in the winter, huddle up inside, sit back and watch the world go by.
Vittoria
This newly refurbished version of the bar is a mixture of an old English pub with a New Orleans bar sprinkled with hints of the classic American ‘dive’ bar. What’s not to like? Expect great music, live bands, an awesome spirit selection, incredibly long (6 hours!) cocktail happy hours and a host of events such as a weekly quiz, a bring your own vinyl night, a £5 Margarita day and stand-up comedy. A fantastic food menu is served from Wednesday-Saturday and an amazing Sunday roast with bottomless Bloody Marys and live jazz. If that’s not enough to tempt you, they have a live-in puppy called Leo who you absolutely need to meet!
The Alma Tavern & Theatre
The Alma Tavern is a friendly, popular and cosy pub on Alma Vale Road in Clifton. Well loved by the locals, the pub often has live music, a leafy outdoor terrace and even their own 48 seated intimate theatre upstairs. Their new kitchen serves up hearty Italian inspired food but has still retained its traditional pub classics such as steak and fish & chips. The pear and blue cheese pizza is also highly recommended!
Their beer on tap includes Arbour, Tribute, Bristol Beer Factory and Guinness (obviously!). The staff are super-friendly and they do love dogs, even featuring a ‘Dog of the Week’ on their Instagram.
They also have a small theatre with a really exciting program this winter.
The Green Man
The Green Man is a grade II listed, very old pub in the heart of Kingsdown. Atmospheric, like a country pub in town, hosting live music, a weekly quiz and serving an excellent roast on Sunday.
This hidden gem of a place is unpretentious and traditional, with a snug interior, serving local micro-brewery ales and stouts, with a small garden at the back.
Dogs feature regularly on their Instagram page having visited the pub itself, so get yourself down there and see which ones you can find. Here’s a couple of dogs hiding behind one of The Green Man’s tables below!
